A robust regional asthma surveillance system produced standardized, comparable data demonstrating very high and increasing rates of asthma in adults and children. By meaningfully documenting the burden of asthma on these families, policy changes are planned at the local, state and federal level.

Despite general perception that tobacco use among young people is on the rise, over 80% of Massachusetts teens do not smoke. To emphasize the healthy, independent activities of teens, HRiA developed "The 84", a social norms campaign that has touched over 700,000 teenagers since its inception.

Varied ethnic and racial backgrounds call for culturally relevant health communication. In an effort to educate older adults about potential interactions between medications and alcohol, extensive audience research and awareness of cultural nuance enabled HRiA to reach at-risk English, Spanish, Portugese and Chinese-speaking populations.
