Distinguished Community Health Award
John Pratt, former member and chair of the HRiA’s Board of Directors, was recognized with the Distinguished Community Health Award at the organization’s annual meeting. The award honored him for his lifetime of contributions to community health.
Pratt has played an instrumental role in the growth and success of HRiA over recent years, helping manage financial resources, providing leadership, and encouraging the development of new strategic directions for the organization.
“John brought a steady presence, well-reasoned thinking, a respect for his colleagues, an appreciation for the staff, and a passion for the work of the organization to the Chairman’s position,” said Ray Considine, president of HRiA.
“He is a true gentleman – kind – thoughtful – a quiet and steady leader,” added Laurie Cammisa, who succeeded Pratt as chair of HRiA’s board.
Pratt has worked as an independent consultant in research infrastructure, with clients such as the University of Pennsylvania, the Broad Institute, and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He also held the position of Associate Director at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research in Cambridge for 25 years, where he managed the organization’s administration and finance. In addition to his work in the health field, Pratt served his country for four years as an officer in the US navy.
Pratt’s peers have described him as “a man of integrity,” “a thoughtful and committed leader,” and someone “deeply committed to the mission of HRiA.”
He served as chairman of HRiA’s board for three years before stepping down in 2011.
