HRiA Wins Awards in Social Marketing for Tobacco Prevention Website

Health Resources in Action was recognized for its innovative and effective social marketing practice. The84.org, an online youth tobacco prevention movement, was honored with the prestigious Gold Award from the MarCom Awards. The MarCom Awards is an international creative competition that recognizes outstanding achievement by marketing and communication professionals, and the Gold Award "is presented to those entries judged to exceed the high standards of industry norms."

Representing the 84% of young people in Massachusetts who do not smoke, The84.org is a statewide social norms campaign promoting creative, individual and healthy lifestyles as well as tobacco prevention initiatives among high school students. The84.org is funded by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and is part of a larger statewide youth-led tobacco prevention initiative.

The 84.org was also awarded the Silver Medal for health promotion by the Web Health Awards, a program that recognizes the best Web-based health-related content for consumers and professionals. Both the MarCom and Web Health Awards are judged by peers in the marketing, communication, and health communication fields.

"You Can Quit Smoking" a step-by-step cessation guide also received award recognition from both the National Health Information Awards honoring the nation's best consumer health information programs and materials and the MarCom Awards. This print guide was recognized for outstanding health communication in consumer awareness and information.

Past awards and honors for HRiA's social marketing and health communication initiatives have also focused on substance abuse prevention and STD awareness.
