Mark Ohrtman serves as the Director of Planning and Design at the HAVI, a fiscally sponsored program of HRiA. Prior to joining the HAVI, Mark worked for over 10 years at the University of Chicago Medicine’s Urban Health Initiative, addressing health disparities on the South Side of Chicago by developing, scaling, managing, and directing campus-community participatory impact projects. Mark led the operational launch, rapid iteration, and staff management of University of Chicago Medicine’s hospital-based violence intervention program (HVIP), the Violence Recovery Program. Mark’s work is guided by a deep commitment to racial justice and health equity. He holds a BA in history from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, an MS in community counseling from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and an MA in social science studies from the University of Chicago.
