Marla Becker, MPH, is the founder of the HAVI and serves as a senior advisor for training and technical assistance. From 1998 to 2011, she worked at Youth ALIVE!, an Oakland-based organization dedicated to preventing youth violence and promoting youth leadership. During her tenure there, she served initially as associate director and ultimately as the director and founder of the National Network of Hospital-based Violence Intervention Programs, which later became the HAVI. Marla has co-authored multiple journal articles and publications related to the value and effectiveness of HVIPs, as well as curricula on the topics of youth violence prevention and sexual health education. Marla earned a Master of Public Health from UCLA and a Bachelor of Arts in English and General Literature from Binghamton University in New York.
