Janene Brown, PhD

Research Scientist, the HAVI

Janene Brown is a Research Scientist at the HAVI, a fiscally-sponsored partner at HRiA.

She is leading a research study assessing the impacts of a hospital-based violence intervention program to support evidence-based investments in violence prevention. Janene is an epidemiologist with a focus on health equity, dismantling systemic racism, and reducing morbidity and mortality from injuries. Her previous research has investigated whether earning income from various sources and income inequality are social determinants of injury risk. She has published and presented her work in Philadelphia and nationally. Janene holds a bachelor’s degree in health and societies from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Public Health from Drexel University. She earned a PhD in Epidemiology from Drexel University’s Dornsife School of Public Health.
