Senior Staff Accountant

Brief Overview:

We are seeking an accounting professional for the newly created role of Senior Staff Accountant.

Position Description:

This role will focus on senior level accounting including, but not limited to, month-end entries, personnel allocation entries, monthly reconciliations, and process improvements. 

This is an exempt full-time position fully remote. The salary range starts at $75,000/year based on skills and experience. HRIA requires that staff be up to date on their COVID-19 vaccinations and must show proof of vaccination upon hire.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Reconcile all balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis including prepaid and accrual accounts 
  • Develop and document SOPs for all reconciliation processes 
  • Working with the COO and the Senior Director of Accounting to ensure the contract drawdowns and revenue releases are reconciled with the net asset accounts and correctly posted 


  • Post all personnel allocations by the 8th of the month for contracts to be billed in a timely manner 
  • Assure that all billable expenses are entered correctly by the 8th of the month for contracts to be billed in a timely manner 
  • Develop SOPs for all allocation processes 

Accounts Receivable/Accounts Payable: 

  • Assist in posting ACH and check deposits in the accounting software in a timely manner 
  • Review weekly check run for accuracy  


  • Work with the Budget & Contracts team for payment questions 
  • Other duties, as assigned 

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in  Accounting or the equivalent work experience 
  •  10 years of experience in financial accounting departments with at least 3 years of non-profit experience 
  • Proven problem-solving ability and aptitude for identifying and implementing process improvements 
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively 
  • Fastidious attention to detail and accuracy 
  • Ingrained systems for documenting, organizing, tracking, and prioritizing work
