Since 1996, HRiA has operated the Massachusetts Substance Abuse Information and Education Helpline, providing free and confidential information and referrals for alcohol and other drug abuse problems. The Helpline is funded by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Bureau of Substance Abuse Services, and is staffed by experienced, certified Information and Referral Specialists with access to a database of 8,000 state-approved resources.
In response to the ongoing opioid epidemic and public health emergency in Massachusetts, HRiA has been working to enhance services available to Helpline callers and visitors of the Helpline website.
As always, our team of trained Specialists is available every day at 800-327-5050 to help people struggling with addiction, as well as their families, friends, and care providers find information about substance abuse treatment services available in Massachusetts. Our Helpline services are available in any language, from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm Monday thru Friday, and 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on the weekends. Our Specialists are available to help callers understand and identify their needs, find appropriate resources, and begin or continue their efforts toward recovery.
Visitors to the Helpline website. can also find licensed and approved services on their own by clicking on “Find a Treatment Center” and searching for programs and services in their area. Visitors can also choose their preferred language and share feedback about the website.
The Helpline website also includes several new interactive features, including a blog with updates and stories about substance abuse treatment and recovery, a calendar of upcoming trainings and events, a news feature highlighting efforts to address substance abuse treatment needs in the Commonwealth, and links to dozens of new prevention and treatment partners and resources.
