Position Description
We are seeking two full-time (2.0 FTE) Managers, Youth Tobacco Prevention, who will support the delivery of our existing Massachusetts (MA) youth tobacco prevention projects. Given the statewide focus and in-person training needs, the Managers must live in MA and will be expected to travel within the state on average once per week, and to attend additional in-person events and meetings, as needed. The Managers will have the flexibility to work from home when not in person. The salary range for this position is $62,000 – $75,000.
Brief Overview
The Managers will join The 84 Movement team, our primary youth tobacco prevention program, and support other youth tobacco prevention work at HRiA. This role will manage different components of the program with each manager responsible for one or more of the following:

- Planning and delivering statewide racial justice, tobacco prevention and leadership trainings for youth and the adults who work with them;
- Managing the mini-grantee program and providing technical assistance (TA) to 84 mini-grantees; and,
- Managing Chapter recruitment and engagement efforts.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about racial equity, public health, and youth tobacco prevention.
HRiA has worked in partnership with the MA Tobacco Cessation and Prevention Program (MTCP) to advance youth tobacco prevention for more than three decades. The 84 Movement (referred to as The 84), now in its 17th year, is a youth tobacco prevention program that uses a positive youth development approach and builds the capacity of a statewide network of youth committed to reversing the influence of the tobacco industry, shifting social norms around youth nicotine use, and making their communities more nicotine-free. The 84 comprises over 50 school- and community- based groups (“Chapters”) representing over 1000 youth statewide, including a Statewide Leadership Team (SLT) of 20 youth from across MA. The 84 offers Chapters trainings and TA on racial equity and policy, systems, and environmental change, mini-grant opportunities and two youth-led statewide events – the Youth Power Summit and Kick Butts Day – to unite and train youth on racial and social justice and connect their local work to a broader statewide movement.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Management
One manager will:
- Manage the planning, scheduling and delivery of racial equity and tobacco prevention trainings to Chapters across the state.
One manager will:
- Manage the mini-grant outreach and recruitment process.
- Manage Chapter recruitment and engagement efforts.
Both managers will:
- Directly supervise one staff and/or intern.
- Manage project expenses, as applicable, in collaboration with program leadership.
- Manage programmatic progress on Asana (a project and capacity management software).
- Prepare the submission of all required progress and data reports and other documentation to program leadership to ensure contract compliance.
Project Work
One manager will:
- Plan and deliver existing and new training content.
One manager will:
- Develop mini-grant materials, such as outreach materials, resources and tools related to the projects.
- Provide TA to mini grantees on questions related to their projects, in collaboration with the team.
- Develop Chapter recruitment materials and design and deliver Chapter engagement events.
Both managers will:
- Support the planning and delivery of two large statewide events with ~250 youth and adults and local legislators.
- Participate regularly in funder/client and partner meetings to work collaboratively toward shared goals.
- Track and contribute information for program evaluation to ensure continuous quality improvement.
Thought Leadership
Both managers will:
- Serve as a subject matter expert on youth development and tobacco prevention.
- Contribute to blogs, website content, and other communications efforts to share and promote project and organizational approaches, expertise, and learnings, as appropriate or needed.
- Present at conferences/events with HRiA staff, clients, or partners, as appropriate.
- Suggest ideas/improvements in project and/or organizational processes and systems through participation in teams and committees.
New Business Development
Both managers will:
- Support responding to progress reports or requests for proposals, as needed.
- Collaborate with the team on business development ideas for proposals.
Candidate Qualifications:
- At least three years of professional experience in youth tobacco prevention, youth development, or public health.
- Bachelor’s degree in public health, education, or related field; in absence of degree, at least 7 years of relevant professional experience.
- Commitment to and understanding of racial and health equity with strong analysis of root causes of inequities.
- Experience with and a strong passion for working with young people and an interest in substance use prevention.
- Demonstrated experience in training development and facilitation on public health and/or racial equity topics.
- Experience with coordinating and managing a mini-grants program is ideal.
- Demonstrated and effective project management and training development and implementation skills.
- Strong presence and public speaking skills.
- Experience and/or interest in supervising staff and/or interns.
- Demonstrated success in engaging a variety of stakeholders including funders/clients, legislative leaders, and community partners, among others.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, and ability to remain focused in a fast-paced, busy environment.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
- Keen attention to detail and a strong commitment to high-quality products.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and on a team.
- Flexibility and a sense of humor.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, OneNote, Teams).
- A valid Massachusetts driver’s license is required and regular access to a vehicle is a plus.
